Star as lifestyle

Hello everyone, my name is Ana Góngora and this week has been my time to be the star.

At the beginning this was the role I most fear of, due to the fact that I thought it was going to be as shameful as difficult but then I realised it was not. When we first started to think about ideas for the topic of “The dark side of text books” we thought that the Info graphic could be OK but then... we run out of good ideas about how to do it (maybe because we were a bit disconnect due to the fact that was the birthday of one of our partners) so I was a little bit worried about what we were going to do. In this moment of concern Maria suggested that it could be better to do a comic and then, like in a film, Lucia and I said at the same time... WE COULD BE THE CHARACTERS! And so we did, with the astonishing skill of Lucia at photography and editing we spend the whole afternoon getting our comic ready.

It is important to take into account that we had previously read all the information and this time it was not necessary to do a speech (as normally stars do) I only needed to have clear ideas. Even thought I am a really meticulous girl so I preferred to concrete a list of advantages, disadvantages and alternatives of books.

The night before Monday I was really nervous (as my colleagues when they were stars I supposed) so I started to talk with the stars of other groups and sharing information because... Oh! I forget to said this week Linda prepared us a really new activity. She only told us that we were going to be in a museum! This is the reason why I previously said that I hadn’t the obligation to prepare a speech. The rest of stars and I were anxious because we had no idea about what Linda could ask us.

Monday arrived with more nervous and a big coffee in the morning (to be as awake as possible). The class started and all the stars take our site in thought the class near to our information (in my case the comic). We couldn’t say anything if the “visitors” do not ask us. In my case I supposed the comic was quite clear due to the fact that only a few people asked me about what ThePowerPuffTeachers wanted to say with it. The bad side of this activity is that I couldn’t enjoy the work of my colleagues because I had to stay in my place.

As my final reflection I would like to say that the star is not a bad or difficult role, you have to be conscious about the importance of the role and have clear ideas about the topic but everyone can do it. Especially this week we have display that the whole class can be incredible and because of that Linda had congratulate us.

Here you can see our comic in English and Spanish.

EVALUATION TIME WITH THE ANALYST!

Hello everybody! I am Inma Álvarez and this week it is my turn to be the analyst of my group.
I am getting closer to know all the roles there are in this subject. At the moment I have been star, curator-farmer, facilitator and analyst and I am always surprised with echa role. I always imagine the role different as it really is.
The main thing the analyst have to do is to evaluate each member´s work and to talk about the most important events of this week.

From my point of view, the best part of the activity was when we dressed up in order to take the photos about "Little Red Riding Hood". It was incredible how we took the photos without planning anything. We had to improvise but in spite of that we had a good time and we took a lot of lovely photos.

However, as in every week, we have a worse part of the week... we met on Tuesday in order to do the activity and we expected to finish it in just a day because it was more difficult to us to meet another day. Nevertheless, we decided to do a comic instead of a info-graphic so, the work we did on Tuesday was not useful.

Although on Thursday we used our time wisely and we could do the activity really good, next time we are going to try to do the activity in just a day because we waste our time if we meet more than once in a week. This is our next challenge!

One of the best part of this week is all we have learnt. Every week we learnt something new, but I think that in this activity we have learnt a lot of things in a attractive and funny way.
In my opinión, this activity is really interesting because it is about books, the only method our teachers have taught with in the school throughout our  lifes. We have learnt that books have a lot of negative effects on our lifes and they taught us really different than other teaching methods.

In our comic we reflect the idea of books show us only one opinion, just one perspective in order to understand things whereas the Media show us different opinions and perspectives. That´s why we compared this idea with the story of "Little Red Riding Hood" in which we tell two versions of the story.

To sum up, I think we have a good group. We learn a lot together, we have many creative ideas and we are more than colleagues. We have problems as all the groups have but, in my opinion, we have enough confidence to tell the problem to this specific person  in order to try to resolve it together. We support and help each other as a group, this is the part we have to conserve.

I hope you enjoy our blog! See you next week!

Facilitator post

Hi. I’m Mari Carmen and this week I was in charge of the facilitator role.

Week roles:

Analist:  Inma
Translator: Carmen
Journalist: Maria
Curator:  Julia
Star:   Ana
Facilitator: Mari Carmen
"Helper": Lucía

This week we dealt with an interesting, current topic we live with every day: the dark side of text books. We were asked to explain it by using new tools (web 2.0 tools) that we would display as at an art gallery on Monday lesson. We set to gatherings for this project. On the first get-together we turned down some ideas, and for the second one, the idea of making a comic took shape.

This issue focus on children’s learning and teaching. To display this conception of educational material we could use an infographic, a twitter timeline or a comic. And finally, after different ideas and despondencies there were agreement. The comic was our tool.  Our mate Lucia made a great job and it looked wonderful.

After reading some documents about this subject I thought it would be easier, but the truth is that there were a lot of work to do to obtain this beautiful, easy-to-understand comic. All of us read and all of us give ideas, then some of them were discarded. The infographic was an option, but it didn’t jelled, just remain as sketch. Another idea was brought up on Thursday, instead of an infographic it would be a comic. Comic live tool plus Photoshop made our work look really nice.

Thanks for reading

See you next week!

DIVERSE WORKS

Hello everybody!
In this post we are going to rename the works of our classmates and establish an order that we think is the best to see the exposition. Here are the groups and the new names for their works:

- Power Teachers: The name we have chosen to this work is 'Rebellion against school' because the children that appear in the comic were carrying torchs and it looks like a rebellion.

- Keep calm and keep organized: For this work we have chosen 'Bookswars' as the tittle because in the exposition the star was dressed up like Darth Vader (a character of 'Star Wars') and we wanted to to something related to that, so we decided to do a wordplay.

- The Umpalumpas: In our opinion, the tittle to this work could be 'Open your eyes to media'. The reason for this choice is that the inphographic's message was this, be open to media.

- PlatyPus: The tittle we have chosen to this work is 'Knowledge reduction' because the inphographic was to radical about this topic, it express they don't want textbooks at all because they have a reductional knowledge.

- ItsChOOL: 'The graphic books' is the name we have chosen to this work because there was a lot of graphics in the work and it was related to media too.

- Seven Up: From our point of view, the tittle for this work could be 'International contents' because in this work it was represented people from different countries with different cultures and different educational contents.

- Bussy Bees: 'The block city' is the tittle we have chosen to this work. The reason of this choice is that the buildings seem like blocks, like pieces of the Lego game.

- Meerkats: The name we have chosen to this work is 'Nightmare on Book Street' because it is shown a boy dreaming with his perfect world, a world without books so, the child was living in an awful world, like a nightmare.

Once we had renamed the works, we had to organized them in the order we wanted to see. Our order for the works would be this:

1. Seven Up
2. Power Teachers
3. Meerkats
4. Bussy Bees
5. Umpalumpas
6. Keep calm and keep organized
7. PlatyPus
8. ItsChOOL
9. PowerPuffTeachers

We have chosen this order because we think that if the first view of the visitors is an attractive painting, they will want to see more paintings; the first three works, from our point of view, are the most attractive in a visual way. The other works are more explanatories and we think is better that first we have an attractive view of the exposition and then we have a complete explanation of it,

                                          Seven Up group

                                          PowerTeachers group

                                          Meerkats group

                                                            Bussy Bees group

                                           Umpalumpas group

Keep calm and keep organized group

                                                            ItsChOOL group

                                           PlatyPus group

                                                             The PowerPuff Teachers group

We hope you enjoy the blog, see you soon!!

TRANSLATING WORDS

Hello everybody!
My name is Carmen Carpena and I am the ''translator'' this week.
I hope you enjoy this post and learn new things.

Comic: Is a story explained by speech balloons in which the author can add any text to specify the real meaning of the story. It is a funny way to express the tale and it is useful to avoid the people get bored and to stress the feelings.

Info-graphic: It is a way to shown some information or data that uses a single sheet of paper so that the readers can have a complete view of all the information easier than if it was in a lot of sheets. It is an original and easy way to explain and show data.

Twitter timeline: It is a list of messages or tweets that are classified according to the date of publication (the most recent are in the top). We can see only the messages of the people we follow in this social network. It is a very useful way to know about people we follow or to know interesting information.

Textbook: It is a type of book that teachers use to teach children in the school. It contains a lot of information about things that the pupil has to know according to his/her age. Depending on the subject, the textbook includes one or other information.

Publisher: It is refered to books. It is a company that is dedicated to publish articles or books. There are many publishers like 'Anaya' or 'Santillana' that are related to textbooks.

Journalist by Maria!

Hi everybody! I am María García and this week my role is... Journalist!!

This week we have been working on a very interesting and real task. This one is not written or you can find it on books due to it is related to the "Dark side of books".

Well, now my mission is to tell the history of the group, I have to tell the dynamic of the weekly work and recover evidences.

First of all, I have to say that this week we met twice. The first one it was a bit waste of time due to a bad organization of the group, the activity of this week consisted on choose one of three options (Comic, twitter timeline or infographic) and we decided that the best option was an infographic.

That day we spend at least three hours making brainstorming and finally we acquired a good idea but it does not convince us at all because it was dull even boring. Those idea was not adecuate to represent our own personal potential so that day was a bit disappointing.

Two days after, once we listen to our teacher Linda in class, we come up with the idea of change our work completely. So we thought to work in a comic. This comic had to be related us, to primary education and with the task of this week.

(It was my birthday, these teachers are the BEST!)

With this base, we thought to represent one of the high number of bad things of textbooks with the classical story of the "Little Red Ridding Hood".

And after some difficulties, as every week we achieve our goal at time, so the previous monday everything was prepare to exhibit our "piece of art" in the Group's 1 Gallery; where our Star (Ana Góngora) was brilliant.

In addition, as journalist this week I have to explore, at least one blog/website from outside the class and one from our own class.

So, I have been searching on the Internet for long time and at the end I have found a Blog which ir quite interesting at least for those who are interesting in education. That blog has losts of post but for me one of the most stand out is "10 Practical Ways To Use Apps In Primary Mathematics Teaching". Here you have its direcction. Visit it! Is very interesting.

http://mrandrewsonline.blogspot.com.es/2012/05/10-practical-ways-to-use-apps-in.html

Finally from our class, I would like you to visit the blog of our mates of  Seven Up due to their "piece of art" was quite good!
Here you have their direction, visit them!!

Thanks for reading me!!

See you next week as....  STAR! :)

Do you need help?

Hi guys! Lucia is back!

This week I have been what _ our group call helper. My role was to help my colleagues to perform their roles, in addition to the part of the work that corresponded me. This week our facilitator has failed to organize all that well, so we had to take command of our own. The topic was very interesting "Dark side of the textbooks", in our case we decided show this idea into a comic, but did not want to make a conventional comic, but rather something flashy, but in turn known for better understanding, for this reason we decided to use the story of red Riding Hood, it is known worldwide.
But we went beyond, we were the protagonists of our comic. I did almost all the work since I use Photoshop and I could well make a montage with pictures that we did and backgrounds or significant features of the story. Also I knew use the tool we use 2.0, which was the ComicLife program. For these reasons, this week I've exceeded my role, I have been more than an assistant. Both I and my colleagues are very happy and proud that the result of our work, and with the reaction have been our colleagues and teacher when they have seen. One more week, I hope you enjoyed and like the fashionable phrase says ...

Laters, Baby! (C.Grey)
Lucía.
